Transgender

Mildred L Brown & Chloe Rounsley in their book “True Selves” explain Transgendered individuals. They state… “There are two common definitions for the term transgendered. The first refers to transsexuals who choose to live in the world as the opposite gender on a full-time basis but do not wish to undergo sex reassignment surgery. The second and more general definition is an umbrella term used to describe the full range of individuals who have a conflict with or question about their gender”

“Transsexualism is not about sex, sexual behaviour, or sexual orientation, it’s about gender, or more specifically, gender identity”

Many people marry and have children and never address the issue of their identity, they live in a world in which they don’t feel l00% comfortable or true to themselves. It often takes many many years before a person with gender dysphoria seeks help. Not everyone decides to transition by dress or surgery to what feels to be the “right” identify. Some people begin the very traumatic path of transition whilst some either choose or have to remain as they are.

It is a very distressing and expensive journey, never ever easy, never without problems, guilt, hurt, upset and questioning, loss of family, lifestyle etc.. Unfortunately, transition is a time when transexuals experience discrimination.

There are specialist consultants and therapists to talk to about gender identity and seeking help, whether it is just to talk over feelings, explore options or begin the long journey of transition, it is important that you get the appropriate professional and sensitive support you need and deserve.
