Anxiety – nervous fatigue
Dr Claire Weekes in “Essential help for your nerves” explains “nervous” symptoms and ways of getting well again.
She talks about the first fatigue, muscular fatigue, subjecting muscles to too constant and too severe tension.
Weeke’s explains further…
Blurred vision and all-over headaches can also be experienced.
The second fatigue, aroused state of sensitization, when nerves are severely sensitized, fear can seem to strike with physical force. This is a scary situation and the person experiences a “ fear-adrenalin-fear” cycle . A sensitized person, under stress, will experience his heart beating unusually quickly, may feel it “thump” – miss beats, have attacks of palpitation, feel his body vibrating, muscle jerks, churning stomach and tingling.
Claire Weekes explains that sensitization is the prime cause of emotional fatigue because it can exaggerate all emotions, thus depleting emotional energy.
The third fatigue, mental fatigue. A mentally fatigued person may say his mind feels enveloped in a blanket, feels dull, heavy, thick.
The fourth fatigue, fatigue of the spirit. People feeling they haven’t the strength to face another day.
Claire Weekes says “we all have the strength, power, within us, and we must trust it to help us learn to walk and live with fear, so that we can eventually walk and live without fear.
She talks about Facing, Accepting, Floating and Letting time pass as an aid to recover.
I recommend to anyone who struggles with anxious, “nervous” illness to read Claire Weekes book. I have highlighted a few of the issues she talks about, she gives case studies, examples of various patients’ problems and anxieties, clearly specifies ways of dealing with this debilitating illness.
