Psychosexual Therapy

Sex therapy is a specialised therapy for individuals and couples who may be having problems with sexual issues/function or who may want to improve their sexual relationship.

It is not uncommon for sex to become a problem if there is a breakdown in a relationship, during illness or after surgery, after childbirth or following a difficult delivery. Disability, loss and bereavement, anxiety and depression can also affect sexual desire. Stress, overwork, the inability to relax, pain or discomfort and the fear of failure can all be the cause of sexual difficulties.

Sexual problems can be divided into 3 main categories:

  • Sexual dysfunction
  • Sexual difficulties
  • Dissatisfaction with the sexual relationship

There is more written about sexual dysfunction/sexual problems in the relevant section on this website which you may find helpful.
